Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to determine whether the leaves sold as mint in the market belonged to Mentha piperita or not. Samples of two mint species (M.piperita and M.spicata) collected from the culture field of Konya Selçuk University Faculty of Agriculture, one sample from the local bazaar and one sample from Kahramanmaraş M.rotundifolia were used as reference. The research materials were obtained from the akthars of Ankara in 2013. The research materials were compared with the leaves of reference materials. Morphological and anatomical analysis, amount of ash, amount of water, essential oil quantity and amaount of foreign matter of samples were calculated and compared with references. TLC comparisons of extracts and essential oils were also done. According to the results of our investigations, most of the leaf samples sold as the mint, were determined as non officinal M.rotundifolia. Keywords : Mentha piperita, Menthol, Essential oil
