Abstract (EN)
In this study, catalytic conversions of glucose and xylose into of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) and furfural using nano metal catalysts were investigated. We have studied the production of HMF and furfural by dehydration of fructose, glucose and xylose using a biphasic reactor system. Nano metal oxides were synthesized under different hydrothermal conditions (ZrO2, CeO2 and ZnO) and characterized using SEM, XRD, BETand NH3-TPD. The effect of catalysts, temperature, solid to solvent ratio and reaction solvent on the 5-HMF and furfural yield was studied. The maximum 5-HMF (%23.44%) yield was obtained at 180oC and 240min using ZrO2 nano metal oxide catalyst. Furfural yield reached %33,35 at 200oC and 120 min with same catalyst . While nano ZnO catalyst was effective on the lactic acid synthesis (%26,23), using nano CeO2, 5-HMF and lactic acid yields were %16,44 and %16,82 respectively. Keywords: Nano metal oxide, 5-hydroxymethyl furfural, furfural, catalytic biomass conversion
