Abstract (EN)

The Neoformalist film analysis approach developed by Kristin Thompson and David Bordwell aims to analyze films holistically, both in terms of content and form. Three feature-length film adaptations of Franz Kafka's novel The Castle, which take as their starting point a single written work, will be examined using a Neoformalist approach: Das Schloß (Noelte, R., 1968) by German director Rudolf Noelte, Zamok (Balabanov, A., 1994) by Russian director Aleksey Balabanov, and Das Schloß (Haneke, M., 1997) by Austrian director Michael Haneke. This comparative neoformalist analysis will explore the contributions of content and form to the creation of meaning and narrative as a whole.
