Survey on unquality detail design, damages caused by materials and application mistakes

ABSTRACT Master Thesis SURVEY ON UNQUALITY DETAIL DESÎGN, DAMAGES CAUSED BY MATERIALS AND APPLICATION MISTAKES Nilüfer ÎŞÇİ Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Construction Education Fırat University 2005, Page: 167 Damage has a role in affecting properties of building, spoilting appearance and decreasing resistance. To define damages and their results in buildings, it should be examined how the defecting effects constitute damages, then analyses and their valuation are reached. In this thesis, it is studied about the damages caused by unqualified detail design, materials, application, and the reasons. It is mentioned that materials must have certain properties according to using aim and workmanship's quality is needed for application in the subject of detail design And the solution offers are given. In the 1. section of the thesis; there is introduction to subject and definition the reason of damages. Effects of unquality detail design to damages are in the section 2.1n the 3. section, materials are classified according to basic structure, as the properties of materials must be known for choosing the appropriate material. The effects of application mistakes are explained in the section 4 and the identification method related to concrete-building damage is given in the 5. section. Materials face to effects as atmospher and water. And if the effects can't be prevented, damages occur. This condition depends on choosing fit materials. The damages caused by application and workmanship's mistakes occur because of either applying conformable detail faulty or incorrect detailing. Keywords: Damage, Design, Material, Workmanship XIII
