Abstract (EN)
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the average daily step counts of 12- and 13-year-old children in normal or double shift according to the certain time periods. Methods: Sixty students with a mean age of 12.5±0.5 participated in this study. Children were asked to wear FitbitFlex 2 acceloremeter on their dominant wrist. Data were collected from children for seven days (minimum four weekdays and one weekend day). Findings: It was seen that the daily average step count of boys was higher than girls for after school, outside school, the weekend, and entire week (p<0.05). In terms of daily average step count before and after school, there was significant difference between 12- and 13-year-old children (p<0.05). It was seen that the daily average step count for children in normal education is higher than the step count of children in double shift schooling for during school, after school, and weekday measurements and that the average daily step count after school is higher than the double shift schooling average (p<0.05). It was found that more than half of both girls and boys fail to reach their daily recommended steps. Conclusion: It was seen that the daily step count of boys was higher than girls. The step count of children during school in normal education is higher than children in double shift education. It was determined that the majority of students fail to reach the recommended step count during school, and more than half fail to reach their daily recommended step count.
