Abstract (EN)
Aim: Obesity model mice were given Phoenixin-14 (PNX-14), which has antioxidant properties according to the data in the literature; it was aimed to investigate the healing effect of PNX-14 against obesity-induced heart and kidney damage and the relationship between plasma PNX-14 levels and obesity. Material and Method: A control and obese experimental model was created, consisting of a total of 4 groups, with 10 mice in each group. To create an obesity model, mice were fed high-fat chow for 16 weeks. Physiological saline and PNX-14 were given to the groups by oral gavage; MDA, GSH, TAS, TOS, OSI and TNF-α values, which are oxidant/antioxidant and anti-inflammatory biochemical markers, were measured in heart and kidney tissues. Additionally, PNX-14 levels were determined in plasma. Results: In the kidney tissues of the obese model groups; it was observed that MDA, TOS, OSI and TNF-α levels increased, while GSH and TAS levels decreased. In the heart tissues of the obese model groups; it was observed that MDA, TOS and TNF-α levels increased, while GSH and TAS levels decreased. In groups given PNX-14 treatment; while MDA, TOS, OSI and TNF-α levels decreased, GSH and TAS levels were observed to increase. PNX-14 level measured in plasma was measured low in the obese group when compared between groups. Conclusion: The results of our current study; it supports the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of PNX-14 in the literature, and also showed that PNX-14 has an opposite relationship with obesity. However, in previous studies, the effect of PNX-14 on food intake; it varies depending on the type applied, method of administration and dose. For these reasons, comprehensive studies are needed to better understand the relationship between PNX-14 and obesity. Keywords: Obesity, Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, Phoenixin, PNX-14
