Abstract (EN)

In recent years, obesity has become one of the leading global problems that threaten human and public health in the world and in Turkey. Our study was conducted on 60 obese women aged 18-65 who were examined at Harran University endocrinology polyclinic between 2022-2023 and referred to the diet polyclinic. The BMI of the women included in the study was calculated as ≥ 30. The women included in the control group did not have any disease and had a BMI <30. The sociodemographic characteristics of the participants were determined through a survey form and a 3-day food consumption record was obtained from the patients. The average carbohydrate amount of the foods consumed by the participants for 3 days was determined and divided into 2 groups. Obese women with a daily carbohydrate consumption of over 60% were considered as high-carbohydrate eaters, and obese women with a daily carbohydrate consumed below 60% were taken as low-carbohydrate eaters. In our study, asprosin and adiponectin levels, which we think may have a role in the diagnosis and treatment of obesity, were examined. Whole blood samples were taken from the control group of 30 obese women on a high-carbohydrate diet, 30 obese women on a low-carbohydrate diet, and 30 healthy non-obese women participating in the study. Adiponectin and asprosin levels in serum samples obtained from blood samples were measured by ELISA. As a result of the statistical analysis, no significant difference was found in asprosin and adiponectin levels between obese women on a high-carbohydrate diet and obese women on a low-carbohydrate diet (p>0.05). However, a statistically significant difference was found between the asprosin and adiponectin levels between obese women on a high-carbohydrate diet, obese women on a low-carbohydrate diet, and the non-obese healthy control group (p<0001). As a result of the study, asprosin and adiponectin levels were examined in order to clarify the pathophysiology of obesity, help the treatment of the disease and develop new methods, and it was concluded that it would be beneficial to investigate the study on more patient groups.
