Abstract (EN)

This study examines the knowledge, attitudes, and practices about occupational safety among Syrian workers in automobile repair workshops located in Northwest Syria and Southern Türkiye. The research employs a descriptive cross-sectional methodology to evaluate the impact of demographic characteristics, training, and geographical differences on workers' compliance with safety standards. Data were gathered from 150 participants via a standardized questionnaire and evaluated with statistical methods to discern major trends and relationships. The results indicate substantial deficiencies in workplace safety awareness and irregular utilization of personal protective equipment (PPE). Although the majority of employees exhibited knowledge of immediate workplace hazards, their attitudes towards safety practices were impeded by perceived barriers, including discomfort and insufficient resources. Psychological factors, such as stress and fatalistic ideas, additionally influenced compliance with safety measures, especially in conflict-affected areas. Employees in Southern Türkiye demonstrated superior safety measures compared to their counterparts in Northwest Syria, indicating disparities in regulatory supervision and resource accessibility. This study highlights the necessity for extensive training programs, enhanced access to personal protective equipment, and behavioral strategies to overcome psychological obstacles. The research underscores the significance of a comprehensive strategy that amalgamates education, mental health assistance, and regulatory structures to improve workplace safety. These findings provide significant insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to enhance workplace safety in high-risk settings.
