The determination of the citizenship perceptions of the students' parents

The purpose of this study is to find out the citizenship perceptions of the parents of the studying students in Kastamonu province Central district according to certain variables. In the study, it was used the survey model as the research model. For this purpose, the "Citizenship Perception Scale" was developed by Acar and Demirbaş. First, expert opinion was taken to prepare the scale form used in the study and pilot implementation was carried out. Then, validity and reliability studies were performed using the obtained data and the scale was finalized. In the preparation of the scale, 8th class Citizenship and Democracy Education curriculum was used as the main source. The population of the study includes student parents who study at 10 secondary schools located in the central district of Kastamonu province. The sample of the research is the parents of 339 students who were educated in 2014-2015 academic year. The data were collected using five-point likert-type "Citizenship Perception Scale". The scale consists of two sections, one factor and 53 items. While the first section includes demographic information, the second section includes items about citizenship perception. In order to analyse the data, SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) software was used. In the study, the citizenship perceptions of the parents in terms of demographic characteristics was examined and according to the results of the ANOVA analysis it was determined that there is a significant difference between the citizenship perceptions of the parents in terms of their economic status.
