Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to find out the effects of teaching and using of learning strategies on achievement, retention and attitude of the students in Social Sciences courses. This research was designed according to two experimental and one control group pretest-posttest modeling. The study was conducted with 109 students who are fifth grades at public elementary school. The data was collected with ?Learning Strategies Questionnaire?, ?Social Studies Achievement Tests? and ?Social Studies Attitude Scale?. Learning Strategies were taught to the students by means of direct teaching method and this strategies were used on the teaching of units.Students? learning strategies were demonstrated with frequency and percent statistics. Data which collected with?Social Studies Achievement Tests? and ?Social Studies Attitude Scale? analyzed with covariance analysis (ANCOVA).Findings indicated that teaching and using of learning strategies increased students? learning strategies levels, achievement, and effected positively attitude of the students, but it didn?t indicate meaningful difference to retention in Social Sciences courses.Key words: Teaching of learning strategies, Social Science, achievement, attitude.
