Abstract (EN)

8. SUMMARYThe Lesions in Association with ACL Rupture and Timing of Surgery( Dr. Kadir Damgaci)This study was performed in an attempt to evaluate meniscal and chondral lesions anddegenerative changes in association with ACL rupture with time. One hundred and thirty seven patients with ACL rupture were reconstructedarthroscopicaly in Adnan Menderes University Medical Faculty Department of Orthopaedicsand Traumatology. Patients were evaluated retrospectively. The patients were divided into 5 groups according to the time between the occurrence ofACL rupture and operation. The patients that were operated in the first 6 months after injurywere named as group A. The patients operated between 6 and 12 moths, 13 and 24 months, 24and 60 moths and more than 60 months were named as group B, group C, group D and groupE respectively.Presence of meniscal lesions and the type of meniscal tears in every group wereevaluated. Also the presence of chondral lesions and the classification of the lesions wereevaluated and the groups were compared. For meniscal lesions group A and B are statistically different from group C, D and E. Forchondral lesions group A and B are statistically different from group E.This study was demonstrated that meniscal and chondral tissue can be damaged with theinitial trauma in association with ACL rupture or these tissues become damaged with timeafter the initial injury to ACL due to the instability within the knee joint. ACL reconstructionswhich were performed 12 months after the initial injury have high risk for meniscal andchondral tissues in all patients.
