Abstract (EN)

Considering Turkey's energy needs, it is crucial to address the energy deficit, reduce reliance on petroleum, and alleviate foreign exchange loss while ensuring efficient use of resources. Renewable energy sources, in contrast to coal, oil, and their derivatives, offer limitless availability, minimal environmental impact, and a longer lifespan. To meet the growing energy demand, Turkey must continue to pursue alternative energy sources and optimize the use of its natural resources, considering the technical, economic, social, political, and environmental impacts for the best possible outcomes. Effective and efficient collection, transportation, sorting, and disposal of solid waste are major challenges for municipalities and industries. Currently, the most effective way to manage solid waste from both environmental and economic perspectives is through source separation and recycling. Recycling helps preserve resources and the environment for future generations, and energy recovery contributes to the economy. With the rise in population, the amount of solid waste is increasing, making it important to reduce the volume of solid waste. This reduction is achievable only through the implementation of recycling projects. In Ordu, district municipalities handle the collection of household solid waste, while the Metropolitan Municipality is responsible for its transfer and regular disposal. There is a need to enhance the management of household solid waste through a robust and sustainable waste management system for collection, storage, and disposal processes. This study introduces the solid waste disposal site in Ordu, conducts a cost analysis of electricity generated from solid waste, and assesses the current status of solid waste management in Ordu.
