Abstract (EN)
Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship between disaster risk perception and anxiety levels among university students, to reveal the current state of disaster awareness, and to identify potential areas for intervention. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 378 undergraduate students studying at Ordu University during the 2023–2025 academic years. Data were collected using a sociodemographic information form, the University Students Disaster Risk Perception Scale, and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 23.0. Results: Among the participants, 70.4% were female, and the majority were second-year students. The rates of cigarette and alcohol use were 34.7% and 22.2%, respectively. The majority of the students reside in dormitories operated by the Credit and Dormitories Institution (KYK), and most of them have an income level that is approximately equal to their expenses. Approximately half of the students were found to have moderate to severe levels of anxiety. Higher anxiety levels were observed among females, those residing in dormitories, those with a psychiatric history, and those with a family history of mental illness. Disaster risk perception was significantly higher among females, non-smokers, non-drinkers, individuals with lower income, and those with low or uncertain attachment to the city. A positive correlation was identified between anxiety levels and disaster risk perception. Conclusion: Disaster risk perception may be an influential factor on anxiety levels. It is recommended to develop intervention programs aimed at increasing disaster awareness and psychological resilience among university students.
