Examination of the relationship between club experience and the understanding of fair play of secondary education students who participate in interscholastic soccer matches

This study was conducted in order to examine the relationship between club experience, gender and the understandings of Fair Play of secondary education students who participate in interscholastic soccer matches.Survey model was used in this study. The universe of the study contains nearly 500 students attending secondary education institutions of Ministry of Education located in the city center of Ankara province in the academic year 2010-2011. The sample of the study is 250 secondary education students (%26.4 female, %73.6 male) receiving education in the secondary education institutions in the centre of Yenimahalle, Keçiören, Akyurt, Altındağ and Çankaya. 250 (184 males, 66 females) students, 148 of them (%59.2) have a club experience, 102 of them (%40.8) don?t have a club experience, consist the sample of the study.?Multidimensional Sportspersonship Orientations Scale? developed by Vallerand, Briere, Blanchard and Provencher and adapted for Turkish by Gülfem Sezen Balçıkanlı in addition to the personal information form prepared by the researcher were used as data collection instrument in the present study. Independent Samples T-Test and Mann Whitney U-Test were used for analyzing the data.Study results indicate that female students are higher than those of male students in the displaying manners of Respect for Rules and Officials and Compliance with Social Norms as the sub-dimensions of Multidimensional Sportspersonship Orientations Scale. As the sub-dimensions of club experience were examined, significant differences weren?t observed in the relation between sub-dimensions manners of Compliance with Social Norms, Respect for Rules and Officials and Respect for Opponents and club experience. Students who have club experience indicated themselves more than those of students without club experience in the sub-dimensions manners of Respect for One?s Full Commitment.
