In secondary educati̇on, the role and i̇mportance of art education

We can say that the discovery of the art started with the discovery of nature by humankind. Although the art is used in different aims in different time of societies, since the cave age the art has existed wherever there are people. By the help of developments in technology the usage areas of the art have changed and it has become very important in humans' lives. This shows us the fact that as long as the existence of people the art will exist. It is an important duty for humankind to sustenance the art and lend it to the future generations in its appropriate shape. This transfer will be with educating the next generations. Therefore it is important to indicate role of the art in education system. The art is not only a free time activity, a hobby, a funny and a decoration which is good to see. The main aim of art teaching is, the grow up generations who have an artistic vision and developed imaginative lives, have the ability of design, researcher, inquisitorial, open to new things, dynamic, productive and skilful. It is not difficult to guess the positive effects of art teaching in economical and sociological areas of the country of which generations has grown up like this. That is why we shouldn't see the art teaching only as an artistic fear of the society, It is enough to examine the Renaissance age to understand the role of the art on society in the areas of economy, politics and sociology. Mathematicians, scientists, and artists of that time made contributions to their countries and world with their inventions. We can easily notice the deficiencies of our country by examining the art teaching timeline of the developed countries. In order to overcome this deficiencies primarily pedagogues, parents and students should change their prejudices. To remove these prejudices we should examine the positive effects of the art teaching on people. Students who are successful in education life are defined as clever people. However, we can't say that the intelligence tests which are done so far can evaluate the real intelligence holistically. Because people still can't define the intelligence completely. As in tests people answer the questions in definite areas they show their intelligence in these areas. According to researches people have different types of intelligences. However as there is no test to show how people can overcome the obstacles they will face during their lives, we can't say the real intelligence of people can be found out. According to researches human brain has an enormous capacity and even the most successful people can use 1% of their brains. According to another research there are left and right hemispheres on the brain. The left brain is dominant in mathematical, logic and verbal areas, the right brain is dominant in art, music, shapes and imagination. This research show the importance of teaching art lessons at the same time of teaching numerical lessons. Students who are studying art develop lots of different abilities. Thus students who can think, product, imagine, create and also self assured, skillful, have visual perception and artistic abilities are being grown up. The responsibilities of pedagogues and parents are to introduce students to art, create a suitable atmosphere for art and to be in the side of freedom instead of limiting them.
