The prediction power of secondary school students' attitudes towards diffe-rent sports branches attitudes towards physical education and sports lesson

1. ABSTRACT Aim: The aim of the study is to examine the predictive power of secondary school students' attitudes towards different sports branches towards physical educa-tion and sports lessons. Materials and Methods: The research was carried out with a total of 896 vo-lunteer students, 435 female (48.5%) and 461 male (51.5%) studying in three secon-dary schools in the Buca district of Izmir. The data collection tools of the research were used Athletic Attitude Scale, Basketball Attitude Scale, Handball Attitude Scale, Volleyball Attitude Scale, Football Attitude Scale, Physical Education and Sports Lesson Attitude Scale (BEDYTÖ) and personal information form. T-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), Pearson Correlation and Multiple Linear Regression analysis were used in the analysis of the data. Findings: As a result of the multiple linear regression analysis, it was found that the "interest in the lesson" sub-dimension of BEDYTÖ's attitude towards athle-tics, football, basketball and volleyball, respectively, had a low negative but signifi-cant relationship (Adjusted R2=.199). It was determined that the "attitude towards the teacher" sub-dimension of BEDYTÖ has a very low positive but significant rela-tionship with the attitude towards Athletics and Basketball, and a negative and very low significant relationship with the attitude towards Handball (Adjusted R2=.027). It was found that the "class hour" sub-dimension of BEDYTÖ has a very low but significant negative relationship with the attitude towards Athletics, Football and Basketball, and a very low but significant positive relationship with the attitude towards Handball (Adjusted R2= .068). Result: As a result of the research, it has been determined that secondary school students' attitudes towards Athletics, Football, Volleyball, Handball and Basketball branches are a predictor of their attitudes towards physical education and sports les-sons.
