Assessment of secondary school students' safe internet usage

Abstract (EN)

The increase of internet usage by people from all parts of society, especially children has increased the question of the importance of safe internet use. In this study; it is aimed to determine safe internet use for secondary school pupils. In 2014-2015 Academic Year-Fall Semester, the sample of this study includes 503 secondary school pupils (255 girls, %50,7 and 248 boys, %49,3). It was applied to 5 schools having different socio-economic levels. One of them is private, and the others are public schools, located in the centre of Afyonkarahisar. The model of this research is "Based on Survey Model". During the data collection phase from pupils, video-assisted survey study is applied. The data obtained from this study is based on using frequency, percentages, arithmetic average and standard deviation, one-way analysis of variance test (ANOVA) and t-test. According to the results of research; the usage of safe internet and the awareness of pupils are generally higher. Girls were found to act more consciously than boys. It is found that 8th grade pupils have awareness level lower than 6th grade pupils. It is determined that there are some non-conscious situations such as copyright infringement and problematic shares. Also, pupils can be pessimistic against software threats. A higher level of consciousness that all secondary school pupils to release, the results of this research on raising awareness about the use of children on the internet for educational studies should be planned and should be done.
