The use of secondary school students 'socıal studıes course cıtızenshıp gaıns ın daıly lıfe

Social studies course is one of the basic courses in citizenship education. The aim of this study is to determine the usage of social studies course citizenship gains in daily life of secondary school students. This research was carried out in parallel design which is a kind of mixed method. Within the framework of this model, the study group of the research consists of 1112 eighth grade students in secondary schools in central districts of Diyarbakır in the 2018-2019 academic year determined by cluster sampling and 21 social studies course teachers determined by criterion sampling method. "Secondary School Student's Social Studies Course Citizenship Achievement Use in Daily Life Questionnaire" were applied to the students who participated in the study and semi-structured interviews were conducted with the teachers. The questionnaire data were analyzed descriptively and chi-square test. The qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis. While responding to the Survey items, the students participated in the other items; it was concluded that they were undecided in the items of expressing their thoughts, showing social participation and choosing between their own willingness and citizenship responsibilities. As a result of the interviews, the teachers stated that the students were interested in the rights and responsibilities, and did not fulfill their responsibilities while using their rights and that they had problems arising from the environment, education system, family, teachers and students. As a result of the research, it is suggested that the environment should be a positive example for the students, the education system should be arranged, the subjects should be reviewed and the course hours should be increased.
