Abstract (EN)

Osman Hamdi Bey who was born in Kuruçeşme, İstanbul on 30th December in 1842 isa painter museologist, and archaeologist. Hamdi Bey was married twice and had four girls and a boy from these marriages. After working as a civil servant at various levels until 1881, he became the head of the Museum-i Hümayun. When Hamdi Bey was appointed as the director of the Museum-i Hümayun in 1881, he revived the Ottoman archeology and started national excavations, then he provided the buildings of today's Istanbul Archeology Museums and the establishment of the Sanayi-i Nefise School. Hamdi Bey also made a great contribution to the development of art in our country, her students shaped the culture and art environment of the young Republic, and his paintings were highly appreciated in the world's largest art galleries Hamdi Bey, who devoted his life to the Ottoman museum and art, passed away on February 24, 1910 in his mansion in Kuruçeşme.
