Abstract (EN)
This dissertation whose title is ?American Missionaries in The Ottoman Empire and The Van Rebellion (1896)?, deals with the activities of the American missionaries in the Otomman Empire in the XIX. the century. The American missionaries especially attended to the Armenians, lived in the Eastern Anatolia. They built schools, hospitals, orphanege for the Armenians. The activities of missionaries gave rise to nationalism between the Armenians. Therefore, the Armenians wanted to establish the independent Armenia. This caused the Armenian rebellion. The Van Rebellian is the most imparatant one in the XIX. century. This dissertation is composed of four parts. The first part is named ?The Rebirth of American Missionary Spirit and American Board?. The Protestant is very important in the social, political and economic life in the American History and also gave to shape the American international relations. This part consisted the story of the founding American Board serious institution in the American Missionary History. The second part of the dissertation, named to ?The Begining of the American Missionaries? Activities in the Ottoman Land?, included to the relations with The Muslims, Jews, Greeks and the Armenians. At last, they decided to establish the American missions bertween the Armenians. The American Missionaries was successful to the activities of Armenians. All the reasons of the succession were in the dissertation. The third part included the activities of American Missionaries in the Van. Van is the most important place both the Ottomans and the Armenians. The American schools, hospital, orphanage and philanthrophy to the Armenians caused the Armenian rebellion in Van. When this part was wrote, The American Board Archives, missionaries letters and annual reports of mission and tabular view of Van mission were used. And also the Missionary Herald, published by American missionary, and American Consulate reports were utilised in this part. The last part of dissertation was named ?The Populatıon of Van and Van Rebellion 1896? . The Van Rebelllion was written day to day and used the Ottoman Archives and the memories of Sadettin Pasha.
