Abstract (EN)

Dressing has been one of the basic needs since the existence of primitive ages in human history. Facts such as protection, religion and ethnic culture, which constitute these needs, have changed form over time, and have translated into people's feelings of material and spiritual feelings such as looking beautiful, hosting the codes of the communities, social status and belief. Their sense of identity formation with the clothes in which they incorporate their cultures into their lives have also been influential in the clothes of Urfa women. Their attire, clothes, ornaments and precious jewels inside or outside the home have been an indication of their wealth, nobleness or poverty. These clothes were unwritten but comprehensible codes of information about which community they were from, what their religion was, what language they spoke, whether they were married or single. recognize the communities living in the region during the Ottoman Empire period from the clothes that contain rich culture; Due to the preference of European style clothing among the women of the Young Republic Period, this diversity has left its place to close and similar clothing styles. With the change and industrial revolution that started in the west, women's inclusion in business life and the clothing culture created by the wars caused the preferences of more comfortable, uniform and mass-produced clothing. Although the acceptance of this style of clothing developed depending on the natural flow in some communities, difficult to accept in communities that adhere to their traditions. It is possible to see this clearly in the folk culture of Urfa. It took time for the local people, who are loyal to their traditions and customs, to get used to these innovations. The continuation of the culture still preserves its place, albeit partially, and the interest in traditional clothes continues in the countryside. In the center, traditional clothing culture appears in weddings and important ceremonies, with new design clothes made from modernized traditional fabrics.
