Abstract (EN)

This study was designed as a case study to examine the changes in the quality of life of a 7-year-old child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through a physical activity program. In this two-year study, a structured and progressively intensified training program was implemented to support the physical and mental development of the individual. During the first six months, the child participated in a training program for 5 days a week, 4 hours a day. In the second six months, the duration was increased to 5 hours, and in the final year, an intensive program was applied with 7 days a week and 6 hours per day. The child's development was assessed every six months using the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale-2 Turkish Version (GARS-2 TV). Analyses included the Stereotyped Behaviors and Social Interaction subscales, the Autistic Disorder Index (ADI), and the Total Standard Scores. The results showed that regular physical activity not only improved the motor skills of ASD individuals but also enhanced their social interactions and behavioral adaptation. During the training process, a decrease in stereotypical behaviors, an increase in social communication, and an overall improvement in quality of life were observed. The findings largely align with other studies in the literature, demonstrating the concrete positive effects of physical activity on ASD individuals.
