Abstract (EN)

This study aims to identify the challenges faced by music teachers working in private schools in Turkey in achieving the objectives of the music curriculum and to develop solution- oriented suggestions to address these challenges. A mixed-methods approach was adopted; quantitative data were collected through surveys administered to 50 teachers, while qualitative data were obtained through semi-structured interviews with 25 teachers who hold administrative responsibilities. Descriptive statistical techniques using SPSS and content- thematic analysis using MAXQDA were employed in the data analysis process. The findings indicate that insufficient class hours, lack of materials, low student engagement, and inadequate administrative support for music education are the primary barriers negatively affecting the teaching process. Moreover, teachers expressed a strong need for professional development and support in integrating technology into their teaching practices. Based on these results, recommendations were made to enhance both the professional development of teachers and the structural and pedagogical strategies of school administrations. This study not only highlights the challenges in music education but also contributes to strengthening the position of arts education within the broader educational system.
