The effect of finger prepared guitar teaching method on the students' success on guitar playing in amateur guitar education (Private Çağlar Music Course example)

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of finger prepared guitar teaching method on the students? guitar playing skills in amateur guitar education.In the study, pretest-posttest with experimental and control group research model was used.The population of the study is the students attending at Ministry of Education Private Caglar Music School. The sample of the study is 14 students with 12-15 age and 1-2 year guitar playing experience, attending at Ministry of Education Private Caglar Music School in 2009-2010 education year.In the study, 8 40-minute-guitar lessons were made with the study and the control group. The teaching period consisted of three phase. The students were taught in the first phase, Bartolome Cataluyud Vals No. 1, in the second phase Fernando Carulli Etude No. 1, and in the third phase, Robert de Visee Menuet. In the lessons, experimental group were taught by using finger prepared guitar teaching method, control group were taught bu using traditional guitar teaching method.The data was collected through a rubric namely Multidimensional Assessment Rubric, developed Midwestern Universty in the U.S.A. The musical performances of the students were evaluated through this rubric in 6 sub area namely, rhythmic accuracy, articulation, pitch accuracy, control of the instrument, inflection and phrasing.Whether there were a difference between the musical performances of the study and the control group was determined through Mann Whitney U test. The significance level was ,05.The results of the study showed that finger prepared guitar education method affected the students? guitar playing skills positively to a degree in short and medium terms. On the other hand, it?s effect was statistically proved positively in long term applications.
