Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the perception of self-efficacy in summarizing and the frequency of using summarizing strategies of middle school students. The relational screening model, which is one of the general screening models, was used in the study. The study was conducted with a total of 300 middle school students. The participants' perception of self-efficacy in summarizing was determined with the "Summarizing Self-efficacy Perception Scale" and the frequency of using summarizing strategies was determined with the "Summarizing Strategies Questionnaire". The obtained data were transferred to the statistics program and analyses were conducted. According to the results of this study, the students' use of strategies for reading comprehension of the source text, creating a draft summary and reviewing and correcting the draft summary text was at a "high" level. When the average scores were examined, it was seen that the frequency of using strategies in the process of reviewing and correcting the draft summary text was higher than other strategies. The analyses regarding whether the frequency of using the participants' summarizing strategies showed a significant difference in terms of the class variable showed that the class level had a moderate effect on reading comprehension strategies. A significant difference was found between the reading comprehension strategy scores of the students in favor of the fifth grade students. The findings regarding the participants' perception of self-efficacy in summarizing showed that the students' levels of reading for summarizing purposes, writing summaries and summarizing self-efficacy were high. The study concluded that the grade level had a low level of effect on the self-efficacy in summarizing. Finally, it was determined that there was a high level, positive and significant relationship between the students' perception of self-efficacy and the frequency of using summarizing strategies. Suggestions were presented based on the results obtained.
