Investigation of the effect of social cognitive structures on triggering the self-compassionate self

In the current study, it was aimed to examine whether the self-compassionate selves of the participants could be triggered by triggering social learning, simulation theory and supporting schemas using a hypothetical scenario. Psychological Flexibility was added to the study as a second variable due to its similarity as a model with Self-Compassion. The sample of the study consists of 86 participants between the ages of 18-43 who do not have a psychiatric diagnosis or history of diagnosis, do not receive psychological support services, and have not completed their first year in psychology education. Informed Consent Form, Demographic Information Form, Self-Compassion Scale, Psychological Flexibility Scale and Impact of Event Scale Revised Form were used as data collection tools in the research, as well as the Self-Compassion Scenario and Neutral Scenario, which was approved by two psychologists who are experts in the field, in order to apply the Self-Compassion intervention. In the first stage of the study, preliminary measurements of the relevant scales were taken. Afterwards, the participants were assigned to the intervention group and the control group, with equal measures of self-compassion and psychological flexibility. Average24 days after the completion of the first part of the study, the Self-Compassion Scenario was given to the intervention group and the Neutral Scenario was given to the control group, and final measurements were taken and the study was terminated. Pre- and post-measurement scores were compared using Repeated Measures Analysis of Multiple Variance (rMANOVA). As a result of the analysis, no statistically significant difference was found between the preliminary Self-Compassion and Psychological Flexibility scores and the final Self-Compassion and Psychological Resilience scores of the intervention and control groups. The findings obtained as a result of the analyzes were discussed in the light of the relevant literature.
