Abstract (EN)

Chemical composition of the Fırat River bank sediments which are located between Palu and Keban Dam Lake show that the Fırat River's sediments can be named as sub-litharenite and felspar litharenite. Pb isotope composition ratios of the studied sediment samples show that the natural weathering of the local lithologic unites is to be more effective on the river sediment chemistry than anthropogenic effects. Average of 206Pb/207Pb=1.205 ratio of the river sediments shows that the sediments are mostly between natural lead values which come from volcano-sedimentary rocks. The units have characterization of Plio-Quaternary Palu Formation, Upper Miocene Çaybağı Formation, and Upper Cretaceous Elazığ Magmatic rocks. Physco-mechanic experiments show that the sediments of the Fırat River have 2.6 gr /cm3 specific weight and sediments' content of optimum bitumen is 4.6 % and their kind of combination's stability value is 2300 kg. The sample sediment (P39) has taken from the east side of the East Anatolian Fault Zone, and has different cemical features from the other samples. The sample sites from P39 to P50 have different physical features due to the superficial water circulation witin fault zone, and increase on the sedimantation of clay minerals becaues of abundance of suspension matter within the river water. According to the all results, the whole sediment samples which have taken from the north of sample site at P39 (East Anatolian Fault Zone) are suitable for aggregate and asphalt as construction industry raw materials interms of stability and fluxing.
