Abstract (EN)

COVID-19 was first seen in the city of Wuhan, Hubei province of China, and has been affecting the whole world since December 2019. It is thought that the disease is transmitted from person to person through droplets, contact and respiration. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized the effects of the Covid-19 virus as a pandemic. Based on the idea that the virus is transmitted through the respiratory tract, it has been made compulsory to wear a mask on the assumption that the mask can be protective. For this reason, we aimed to investigate the changes in blood parameters in mask wearing for a long time. In our research, we investigated how these parameters change and whether there is a factor that facilitates virus binding in changing parameters. Accordingly, we tried to determine a criterion for the correct use of masks. Our study will contribute to the correct mask wearing times, especially in healthcare workers, in terms of evaluating both blood values and the effects of the virus. In our study, we retrospectively analyzed the blood parameters of male and female patients over the age of 18 who were conscious, able to communicate, and the blood parameters before the pandemic and the blood parameters of the patients who were admitted to wear a mask for an average of 8 hours a day after the pandemic. Patient data were analyzed in a healthy non-covid patient with a G power confidence interval of 0.95. In our study, an increase in creatine, sodium, TSH, amylase values, and a decrease in magnesium, pH, T3, PaO2, SaO2 values were observed in the period when mask was worn compared to the period without mask. This result was statistically significant (p<0.05). Increase in albumin, erythrocyte, hemoglobin, lymphocyte, potassium, protein values; ALT, AST basophil, bun, eosinophil, chloride, leukocytes, monocytes, neutrophils, T4, thrombocyte, urea values were decreased. This result was not statistically significant due to insufficiency of individuals (p>0.05). D-dimer and PCO2 values were not significantly different (p>0.05). As a result, it was observed that the use of masks independent of Covid-19 caused significant changes in blood parameters. Key words: Mask, pandemic, blood parameters, human
