Artificial intelligence research in education in turkey during and after the pandemic: A prisma-based systematic review of graduate theses

This research systematically examines postgraduate theses on artificial intelligence in education in Turkey between 2020 and 2025, defined as the pandemic and post-pandemic period, using a literature review design and the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) approach, considering their methodological, content-based, and thematic aspects. The data sources for this research consist of postgraduate theses accessible in full text from the YÖKTEZ database. Following a search using defined inclusion and exclusion criteria, 10 doctoral theses and 56 master's theses were included in the review. The Thesis Review and Coding Form was used to collect data. The obtained data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (frequency and percentage) and thematic content analysis methods. The findings indicate a significant increase in the number of postgraduate theses focusing on artifical intelligence in education in the post-pandemic period. The reviewed these mainly addressed artifical intelligence through machine learning, natural language processing, learning analytics and generative artifical intelligence approaches and were predominantly based on quantitative and mixed research methods. Artifical intelligence applications were found to concentrate particularly on personalized learning, assessment and evaluation processes, student achievement prediction, teacher support systems. Based on findinggs, it was concluded that research on artifical intelligence in education in Turkey has become increasingly diverse; however, there remains a continuing need for studies that place greater emphasis on pedagocical coherence, ethical considerations and practice-oriented applications. In this respect, the studt provides an averall overview of existing postgraduate research on artifical intelligence in education and present a framework that may contribute to future academic studies.
