Abstract (EN)
Since the emergence of COVID-19, there has been a significant increase in the level of knowledge and experience regarding the disease. However, COVID-19 continues to have an impact on morbidity and mortality worldwide. Therefore, ongoing global efforts to combat COVID-19 are of great importance for reducing and controlling the effects of the disease. The clinical condition of intensive care patients can change rapidly. For this patient group, advanced treatment and care practices are critical for calculating prognostic mortality and morbidity related to organ failures. Thus, the use of scoring systems in intensive care units is essential. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the predictive ability of the APACHE II score for mortality in patients who tested positive for COVID-19 and required intensive care during the pandemic. After their COVID-19 tests returned negative, these patients were continued to be monitored in internal medicine intensive care. Additionally, we aimed to compare the mortality predictions of the APACHE II score on the first day of admission between this group and a control group formed randomly from patients admitted to internal medicine intensive care for non-COVID-related reasons. Our analyses showed that both the APACHE II score and Biomarker (BMO) could be strong parameters for predicting mortality. However, in the comparative analysis, no 53statistically significant difference was found between the predictive powers of the APACHE II score and BMO.Keywords : COVID-19, APACHE II, Intensive Care
