Abstract (EN)
Anatomic variations in paranasal sinuses can cause infection by disrupting the drainage of the sinuses. Also it is important to determine the sinuses and anatomical variations for the success of implant and endoscopic sinus surgery. Therefore, this area should be evaluated with appropriate imaging methods before presurgical applications. Computed tomography (CT) is often used for the assessment of anatomic variations and the diseases of the paranasal sinus and also the diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory diseases. DVT 's radiation dose is lower than CT. As a result, DVT may be preferred for examination of paranasal sinuses. In this study 500 patients' (255 male, 245 female) DVT images were analysed. The anatomic variations which can cause mucosal diseases in the maxillary sinus adjacent to the middle meatus area, the frequency of the maxillary sinus pathologies and variations, the relationship between anatomic structures and maxillary sinus mucosal changes were evaluated. According to our study the most common paranasal sinus variation is nasal septum deviation. There is no statistically significant correlation between anatomic variations and maxillary sinus mucosal thickening. The average values of the right and left maxillary sinuses' volumes are 12.47 cm3 and 11,85 cm3. In our study, the relationship between maxillary sinus volume and maxillary sinus pathology was evaluated. The volume was found to be lower in the maxillary sinus with sinus pathology (p < 0.05). It is beneficial to use DVT devices which provide low-dose radiation.and 3D imaging for application of safe endoscopic sinus surgery in the paranasal sinuses and avoid complications in dental practice.
