The fractal theory of fingerprint

In this study, fingerprint which is the most reliable property of the person's biometric structure and the using of fractal theory at identifying the fingerprint is examined. First of all, it is pointed at the progress of history of identifying fingerprint and with the two main methods which are achieved from this process; the properties of fingerprint are extracted. These are minutiae based algorithm and pattern based algorithm. To make the properties acquired from the algorithms, fractal, it is necessary to calculate the fractal dimension. In other words, it is calculated statistically how they are seen completely, at the covering of space. For this operation, the necessary fractal dimension calculation methods are introduced and some minutiae dimension calculations are made. But fractal dimension don't make clear the smallest details, it is also used for classification not for identification. After this point, to produce fractal, the chaos game theory which is example of iterated function systems is used and new fractals depended on the fingerprints are produced. For this production, one random point and four defined points are chosen at the finger surface. With looking at the black and white picsels coming at the finger surface; one and zero points; five different groups and sixteen positions are come into existence. New parametres are achieved with chaos game theory. At the last, in the span of zero to one with the accuracy (0,02), fifty varieties occured and by having ten parameters, calculations is guaranteed unity of fingerprints. The results of the fingerprint matchings at the computer show that this method is % 100 succesfull. Key Words: Fingerprint, Fractal dimension, Minutiae, Chaos game theory.
