Evaluation of some acute phase proteins in dogs with parvoviral enteritis

Abstract (EN)

In the presented study, a total of 40 dogs aged 0-12 months were used, with 30 dogs showing symptoms of Canine Parvovirus (CPV) infection and testing positive using the Canine Parvovirus (CPV) Ag Rapid Test Kit, forming the study group, and 10 healthy dogs testing negative forming the control group. Blood samples were obtained from the study and control groups using the vena cephalica antebrachii technique for hematological measurements in EDTA tubes and for serum biochemistry measurements in biochemistry tubes. Hematologic measurements of WBC, LYMP, RBC, HB, HCT, and PLT concentrations were measured, while Total Protein (TP) and Albumin (ALB) concentrations were measured for biochemical parameters. Haptoglobin (HP), Seruloplazmin (CP), and C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations were measured in the same sera. Statistically significant differences were found in WBC, LYMP, RBC, HB, HCT, PLT, TP, and ALB values between dogs with parvoviral enteritis and healthy control dogs. Although CP and CRP concentrations were found to be higher in dogs with parvoviral enteritis than in the control group, no statistically significant differences were found. Based on the results of this study, we believe that HP, CP, and CRP are important parameters in diagnosing and evaluating the prognosis of Canine Parvo viral enteritis along with hematological, biochemical, and clinical findings.
