Abstract (EN)

Electropolishing Coating is a decorative process of restoring the metal's original shine by removing micron-sized pieces from the metal surface under anodic current in the automotive industry. Electropolishing is the process of revealing the characteristic shine of the surface. The difference of this study from other studies in the literature is; In electropolishing coating, cataphoresis coating and powder coating are applied to slides that are rejected due to scratches, thus combining features such as high corrosion, adhesion, and the high anti-scratch properties of powder coating. Since it is the process of polishing the part by applying a certain current in various chemicals, electropolishing means both chemical and electrical. It is called "electrochemical" process. The physical properties of the polished metal itself remain the same. In addition, other processes applied before and after electropolishing (passivation, mechanical polishing, sandblasting, etc.) provide various levels of protection such as relieving part stress and increasing corrosion resistance. It is the process of polishing the part with the help of electrolyte, temperature and current. The metal to be polished serves as a positively (+) charged anode. The cathode, made of special material, is connected to the negative (-) pole of a DC operating power supply. Electric current from the DC power supply is transmitted from the anode to the cathode through the electrolyte. The electric current causes metal ions on the surface of the part to oxidize and dissolve in the electrolyte. This process can dissolve extremely small, tightly controlled amounts of metal, resulting in metal detachment from the surface at the micron level. Salt mist after cataphoresis coating and powder coating is applied to slides that are rejected due to scratches in electropolishing, cyclic corrosion performance test results are obtained in accordance with the results. While the Zinc Phosphate period was determined to be insufficient. According to the characterization data of stainless materials, it has been concluded that the parts coated with electropolishing and cataphoresis and powder coating provide appropriate corrosion performance.
