Abstract (EN)
Paul Hindemith is one of the most prominent figures in 20th-century music. In addition to his identity as a composer, he contributed to the art of music as a conductor, educator, music theorist, and critic. He holds a significant place in the clarinet repertoire, just as he does in the classical music repertoire. The subject of this study is the Formal Analysis and Performance Evaluation of Paul Hindemith's Clarinet Concerto. Hindemith composed the concerto in 1947 at the request of the renowned jazz clarinetist Benny Goodman. The Clarinet Concerto was first performed by Benny Goodman on December 11, 1950, during a student concert in Philadelphia. Composed in a neo-classical style, the work consists of four movements. The first movement is Ziemlich Schnell, the second movement is Ostinato-Schnell, the third movement is Ruhig, and the fourth movement is Heiter. The Clarinet Concerto is among the significant works added to the clarinet repertoire due to its technical and musical depth. This study provides information on the life of Hindemith, his musical language, the historical background of the concerto, its formal analysis, and its performance evaluation. The concerto, consisting of four movements, is examined under separate headings in terms of both formal analysis and performance aspects.
