Abstract (EN)
Humans have lived in communities since prehistoric times. Living in communities is important in terms of facilitating human life and meeting social needs. Housing space and its environment, which is the living space of people, cannot be considered as an objective issue without human influence. The relationship between the concept of social life and residential space is a subject frequently studied in human-environment interaction studies. Housing models, which started to change and transform with the industrialization period, follow models in which individualization comes to the fore and isolated lives are preferred. In contrast to this isolated lifestyle, where social needs cannot be met and the conveniences and advantages of communal living are not available, the Co Housing model, which originated in utopian approaches and emerged in Denmark in the 20th century, is a social housing model based on individuals/families coming together to form a community with a unity of purpose and consensus. This housing model allows individuals to meet their social needs by keeping the interaction between individuals in the community at an optimum level and facilitates life with various task distributions. When the social characteristics of Co Housing and the reflections of the social life style on the space are analyzed, it is thought to have similarities with the Turkish House. These similarities, which constitute common spatial definitions, reveal their spatial equivalents. With the idea that the qualities and spatial features of the Turkish House that support communal life are intertwined with the Co Housing, which belongs to a different period, culture and geography, it is aimed to compare and evaluate the two housing models. It is important to identify the social and spatial characteristics of the Co Housing and the Turkish House and to open these characteristics to discussion on architectural platforms for today's and future housing models. For this reason, this study aims to reveal the social and spatial characteristics of both housing models, as well as the convergence relationship between social life and space. Anahtar Kelimeler: Co-housing, Turkish House, social life, space.
