Abstract (EN)

Marketplaces, where producers and consumers meet directly for the purpose of commerce, have been areas where trade has developed and city centers have been mobilized throughout history. Marketplaces where products belonging to all kinds of sub-sectors are sold have a deep-rooted cultural history, especially in Turkey. Marketplaces are decreasing day by day due to factors such as changes in economic, social and cultural structure, differentiation of transportation preferences, the widespread use of shopping malls and supermarkets over time, and the inability to fully determine the information about the marketplaces in the districts. The inability to accurately determine the space, number and size of the marketplaces causes these areas to be insufficient. The location selection of the market places is made in accordance with the planning standards and planning principles. Continuing, there are gaps in the literature on analytical methods and quantitative models about how many marketplaces will be established in districts and what size these areas will be. In direct proportion to the population, the number and size of marketplaces increase in districts close to the city center and decrease towards districts at the periphery. There is a relationship between the number of marketplaces and their areal sizes. If the marketplaces are large in area, the number of marketplaces in the district is low, and if the number is large, their area size is small. In this study, the relationship between the number of market places and their area sizes in İzmir and Denizli provinces was found with the help of multiple linear regression model. In this direction, the number of market places and their areal sizes in the districts of İzmir and Denizli provinces were measured. By using the population data in the districts, the market area per capita and the number of people per marketplace were calculated. Then, settlements below and above the average in terms of the aforementioned values were determined on the basis of districts, and it was suggested to develop marketplaces in these regions. With the model obtained within the scope of the study, it is evaluated that as a result of the differentiation of the market place numbers and population sizes in the future, or by using the model proposed in other cities, it is possible to determine which districts need number and area size.
