Abstract (EN)

In this study of which subject is the effect of soap opera on women, it is deemed that women watch soap operas for meeting their various requirements within the framework of usage and satisfaction approach. At this point, it is seen that women are active viewers and they make their decisions for watching soap opera at their own discretion. It is also seen that the housewives, with whom a survey was conducted, prefer to watch soap operas because of various reasons such as recreation, resting, habitual motive and etc.In the sample group, with whom the survey was conducted, no attitude change based on watching soap opera was determined. Although they had emotional response with regards to the events occurring in the series, they were well aware that those events has nothing to do with the real world and do not accord with Turkish society. There is no data concerning the attitude change among the answers given by the women to the questions on the reasons of women watching soap operas.Personal and psychological characteristics of women as well as their socioeconomic conditions have effects on women in terms of watching soap operas. However, this effect is not as significant as expected. On the contrary, it is seen that the sample group started to tend watching certain spiritual programs instead soap operas as much as they used to.
