Investigation of herpes virus frequency in periodontitis patients by using pcr.

Recently a relation was revealed between herpesvirus and severity of periodontitis. This studys contribute to understand etiopathogenesis of periodontitis. The aim of this study was to determine prevalence of herpesvirus (Herpes simpleks virus tip 1 ve 2 (HSV-1,2), Epstein?Barr virus (EBV), Cytomegalovirus (CMV)) in crevicular fluid sample which were taken patients with periodontitis and to reveal a relation between clinic paremeter (plak indeks; PI, gingival indeks; GI and probing depth; PD) and present of herpesvirus.For this aim, as sample; 52 patients with periodontitis and 20 healthy persons who attend to periodontology clinic of Elazığ Tooth Hospital were accepted in 2007. Crevicular fluid of sample were taken with paper point. Later DNA was extracted from this sample. Present of herpesvirus (HSV-1,2, EBV, CMV) were investigated with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) using specific primers.EBV was determined in 61.5% of 52 patient?s sample. CMV was determined in 53.8% of 52 sample. HSV-1 and HSV-2 were determined timely in 32.6 % and 25 % of 52 sample. EBV was determined in 20% of 20 sample of healthy persons. CMV was determined in 10% of the 20 sample. HSV-1 and HSV-2 were determined timely in 10 % and 5 % of the 20 sample. A correlation between EBV and clinic parameter (PI, GI, PD) was determined (spearman?s rho). A correlation between CMV and clinic parameter (PI, PD) was determined but a correlation between CMV and GI was not determined. A correlation between HSV-1, 2 and clinic parameter (PI, GI, PD) was not determined.As result; present of a strong etiologic relation between present of EBV, CMV and periodontitis, its clinic condition were convinced. Weak etiologic relation between HSV and periodontitis, its clinic condition were convinced.
