Abstract (EN)
The objective in this study is to make a detailed survey and presentation of the Black- Glazed Pottery finds from Phokaia which was one of the most important sites in Western Asia Minor yielding archaeological data concerning with the production and import of this specific type of pottery. The conclusions of this work will also provide comparative material for the same group that could come from other sites and will be a reference for the future studies. Within the scope of this thesis, the Black-Glazed and Black-Glazed Banded Ware from İsmetpaşa district in Foça (island no. 1056, parcel no.13) are evaluated. After the visual recording (drawing and photographing) of the material, the main grouping of the material was made. Various profiles and decorations on the sherds provided the necessary data for fixing sub-groups. The analogies proved that the Black-Glazed pottery from Phokaia can be dated to the long period of time starting from the seventh century BC and ending in the second century BC. An important concern is that the Black-Glazed pottery from Phokaia was not only composing of imported wares. The number of the examples classified as local productions shows that there was a dense pottery production at Phokaia.
