Abstract (EN)

In this work, the inhibitor effect of Variamine Blue B (VBB) an organic substance has been investigated to extend the life of brass materials which is widely used in industry and especially reacts with electrochemically with its environment. For this purpose, corrosion rate of brass was determined at different temperatures in 3.5% NaCl solutions with and without VBB. The substance was investigated at short and long waiting times whether it is an effective inhibitor by using alternative current impedance and potentiodynamic polarization techniques. According to experimental results obtained by different methods; VBB reduces the corrosion rate of brass alloy in 3.5% NaCl medium. From thermodynamic parameters it was found that the adsorption of VBB on the brass surface takes place with physical interactions. Long terms tests reveals that VBB provides protection in the ratio of 74.8% during 120 hours exposure time. A smoother surface was observed when compared to the surface exposed to uninhibited NaCl solution. Keywords:Brass, Corrosion, Inhibitor, NaCl Solution, Variamine Blue B.
