Abstract (EN)

Traditional handicrafts, like other folkloric elements, are one of the most concrete and meaningful indicators of a society's cultural identity. This study aims to evaluate Edirnekâri decorative art and Edirne Red, which has historical and cultural significance, in the context of traditional handicrafts and contemporary design. In this study, based on the assumption that handicrafts are the most vivid documents reflecting a nation's cultural identity, these two important elements that shape Edirne's historical and artistic vision have been examined. The elegant design approach of Edirnekâri and the unique colour tone of Edirne Red have created an aesthetic unity in Ottoman art, finding their place in many areas, from architectural structures such as mosques to everyday objects. In this context, this study demonstrates how traditional artistic elements can be transferred to the contemporary design world, and also includes the design process of an original jewellery collection inspired by Edirnekâri motifs and Edirne Red pigments. The collection contributes concretely to the preservation and visibility of cultural heritage, while also serving as a creative example of how local values can be combined with contemporary jewellery design.
