Abstract (EN)

Aim: To investigate the effect of placenta delivery method on postpartum pain, bleeding, and comfort in women. Materials and Methods: The study is a randomized controlled experimental study. It was conducted with 110 primiparous pregnant women (55 experimental, 55 control) who were admitted to the delivery room of Tarsus State Hospital between March 15, 2024, and January 15, 2025. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, Visual Analog Scale, and Postpartum Comfort Scale. Data were analyzed using the SPSS for Windows 22 package program using number, percentage, minimum and maximum values, mean and standard deviation, t-test for independent and dependent groups, Mann Whitney U analysis, Will Coxon analysis, and chi-square test. A p<0.05 level of significance was considered. Findings: The difference in the mean VAS pain scores before and after placenta delivery of the women in the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05). The difference in the mean prenatal hemoglobin level, hematocrit level, hemoglobin level and hematocrit level measured at the 6th hour postpartum, and the decrease in prenatal and postpartum hemoglobin and hematocrit levels between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05). The difference in shock index, vital signs, and pad monitoring between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Uterine tone was firm in all measurements in both groups. The difference in the Sociocultural Comfort mean scores between the experimental and control groups was statistically significant (p<0.05), with the mean in the experimental group being higher. The difference in the Physical Comfort, Psychosocial Comfort subscale scores, and the total Postpartum Comfort Scale score between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: The method of placenta delivery did not affect the women's pain levels. Pain levels were similar in both groups. The method of placenta delivery did not affect the women's bleeding levels. No postpartum hemorrhage occurred in either group. The method of placenta delivery did not affect the women's hemoglobin levels, hematocrit levels, vital signs, shock index, pad changes, or uterine tone. While the method of placenta delivery did not affect the women's overall postpartum comfort level, only women whose placentas were delivered by a mixed method had higher sociocultural comfort. To investigate the effects of different placenta delivery methods (active and mixed management) applied in the third stage of labor on postpartum pain, bleeding and comfort levels of women.
