Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of the diet applications that contains different diet patterns on the body composition and some biochemical findings for the patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This study was conducted on 20 women with average age of 30.0 ±3.0 SD years, body mass index (BMI) 25-35 kg/m2, who have applied to 'Moso Diet and Nutritional Counseling Center' between May 2015 and January 2016 after diagnosed as PCOS recently by the endocrinologist /gynecologist. The patients who have not been doing a regular physical activity and only using oral antidiabetic were seperated into two groups; normal protein diet (NPD) and high protein diet (HPD), randomly. During the 6 weeks of diet application process, diets with different macro nutrient distribution were applied to both two groups. Oral antidiabetic and a weight loss diet that contains macro nutrient distribution of energy as %55 carbohydrate, %15 protein, %30 fat was given to the first NDP group. Oral antidiabetic and a weight loss diet that contains macro nutrient distribution of energy as %40 carbohydrate, %30 protein, %30 fat was given to the second HPD group. After 6 weeks of follow up, the biochemical symptoms, anthropometric measurements and body composition measurements of the patients was made. After comparing the difference of the antropometric measurements for both two groups, weight loss, BMI, and the decrease on the waist circumference, hip circumference, waist/hip ratios, neck circumference, and waist/height ratios was determined statistically significant (p<0.05). When comparing the effects of both diets on the body composition; the HPD was detected as more effective on the body compositions (total body fat ratio, total body fat mass, trunk fat ratio, trunk fat mass, visceral fat portion) (p<0.05). After analyzing the average difference of the two groups' blood tests (HOMA-IR, HbA1C, insulin, fasting, LDL, HDL, TG, cholesterol, BUN, vitamin D, LH, FSH, estradiol, prolactin, total testosterone, DHEAS) no significant difference was found (p>0.05). Consequently, it was found that the protein-based second diet is more effective on body composition while dietary applications with different dietary patterns does not have different effects on blood findings.
