Abstract (EN)

This study surveys the relationship of the phenomena called fashion with popular culture. The meaning of fashion according to different sources, how it has evolved, the changes that it has gone through thanks to technology and the ways it influenced people have been analysed. The period of 1950 ? 1990 when popular culture went through social and political changes, and capitalism as well as when consumer behaviours rose up has been explored together with a close look at the role media and advertisement played to boost the need for fashion products. People?s tendency to buy more fashion products has been evaluated as consumerist behaviour rather than a real need. All cultural fields started to follow a track where fashion products were really popular.People who follow world-famous people through mass media thanks to the effect of globalisation have been illustrated with visuals. Mass media and social media were the most important factors that gathered the masses together and directed them in terms of style.Fashion icons were popularized through advertisements and famous brands marketed their products through them. Thereby, the influence of popular culture on large masses in parallel with the developing technology and social media which is one of its constituents has been reassessed through visuals.Key words: Fashion, popular culture, fashion icon
