Abstract (EN)

Colonialism is the practice of one country's expanding its dominance over another, typically through the establishment of settlements, exploitation of resources, and political, economic, and cultural domination of the local populace, is known as colonialism. This dominion and exploitation that Africa, India, and some Asian countries were subjected to, affected every field from politics to economy and has also been reflected in literature. In his novel Arrow of God (the last story of the African Trilogy) Chinua Achebe depicts how the British oppressively rule over natives, under the administration of Captain Winterbottom. The colonizers in the novel impose their rules by using their culture and language, disregarding the natives' beliefs and culture, and profiting from cheap labor, even sometimes free when necessary. He explains how the British overrule natives by using all instruments of colonialism. This thesis aims to analyze Arrow of God in the light of post-colonialism by addressing mimicry, hegemony, and Eurocentrism. This thesis also investigates the strategies used by the British during the period of colonization, under the administration of Captain Winterbottom, the natives' efforts to resist, and the role of language, rituals, and beliefs concerning this resistance.
