Postmodern oryantalizm ekseninde batı basını

The Orientalism, which has primarily occurred as a scientific or artistic interest towards the Orient, has afterwards become a discriminative discourse. The existence of such a discourse in the press is contradictory with the ethical and humanitarian rights of the readers. The objective of this thesis is to reach to some exemplary remarks, which may define the context of the orientalist discourse in the occidental press. To arrive to conclusion for an evaluation, we analyze the news on the first pages of the newspapers in the period of an important incident, which we define as the conflict between Israel and Lebanon in 2006. Our method of analysis will be Teun Van Dijk?s method of critical discourse analysis. We have chosen three newspapers from Britain, France and United States with the highest circulation in 2006.
