Abstract (EN)
OBJECTIVEThere have been lots of studies about the prognostic factors recurrence and progression ofbladder tumors without muscle invasion and various results on their importance have beenpublished. In this study we aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of HYAL?1 in T1urothelial bladder tumors.METHODSEighty nine T1 urothelial bladder cancer patients whose paraffin blocks had been obtainedfrom pathology archives and follow up informations had been registered prospectively wereincluded in our study. Age, sex, grade, presence of accompanying CIS, tumor size andnumber of tumor were evaluated.Hematoxilen-eosin stained slights of tissue specimens obtained by the included patients werere-examined in terms of 2004 WHO classification. HYAL?1 expression was detected andgraded for staining density by 2 pathologists.RESULTSBy the follow up (median follow up 36 months) 38 (42,7%) of 89 patients had recurrence, 22(24,7%) had progression. Among 89 patients, 82 (92.1%) had high grade staining scores (+2n=10, +3 n=72) and only 7 patients had low grade staining (0 n=1, +1 n=6). Tumor Grade, accompanying CIS, multiplicity, age and sex were not found to have significantly related withHYAL-1 staining features. HYAL?1 expression was not statistically effective for predictingrecurrence and progression in T1 urothelial bladder cancer. Among various clinic pathologicalparameters only accompanying CIS (p=0,021) was statistically significant on recurrence;grade (p=0,005) and accompanying CIS (p=0,003) were found significantly related withprogression.4.CONCLUSIONIn our study we found that HYAL?1 expression has no role on predicting recurrence andprogression in T1 urothelial bladder cancer.Key words: HYAL?1, bladder cancer, T1, rekürrens, progresyon
