Abstract (EN)

Education system in Turkey has been in a rapid change and evolution in the last 150 years. This process beginning with the Tanzimat Era, became more large-scale and deep-rooted in the Republic that was declared after ?the Turkish War of Independence?. Mustafa Kemal and his friends considering education important, supposed modernation of education as the top-line aim to reach the level of developed countries.The most considerable difficulty of the ?Young Republic? in quest of the new education system and schools was -without a doubt- the lack of qualified staff. A ten-years effort was made even to meet this need. Eventually one of the results of these efforts was Prof. Dr. Fatma Varış who was one of the most remarkable educators in Turkish educational circle. Varış?s career began with being a teacher, continued with being an academician after post-graduate degree in abroad. She played an important role in the founding of the first Faculty of Ecucation in Ankara University where she served in various positions. She has become the most major and prominent figure of Turkey in the case of educational programs.In this study, as a successful, a hardworking, a confidient in herself and her claim, a model person who devoted to education and science, the life and studies of Prof. Dr. Fatma Varış are evaluated.In the first chapter of the study that contains three main ones, the life of Prof. Dr. Fatma Varış is described. The socond chapter discusses Varış?s studies, and the last one evaluates Varış?s ideas upon Turkish educational system and also it tries to introduce her position in eductional circle.
