Investigation of the relationship between communication skills of psychiatric nurses and job satisfaction and job stress

This study was conducted with 55 psychiatric nurses working in Istanbul Erenköy Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital in order to examine the relationship between psychiatric nurses' communication skills, job satisfaction and job stress. Research data; sociodemographic characteristics and personal information form were collected with communication skills scale, job satisfaction scale, perceived job stress scale. NCSS (Number Cruncher Statistical System) 2007 (Kaysville, Utah, USA) program was used for statistical analysis. While evaluating the study data, descriptive statistical methods (Mean, Standard Deviation, Median, Frequency, Rate, Minimum, Maximum) as well as the distribution of the data were evaluated with the Shapiro-Wilk Test. ANOVA was used in the comparison of three or more groups with normal distribution of quantitative data, and the Kruskall Wallis test was used for the comparison of three or more groups with no normal distribution. Post-hoc tests were used to determine the differences. Student-T Test was used for two group comparisons with normal distribution of quantitative data, and Mann-Whitney U test was used for two groups without normal distribution. Spearman correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between quantitative data. Significance was evaluated at p <0.01 and p <0.05. Positive emotions about work show a statistically significant difference according to the sub-study section (p = 0.006; p <0.01). The fact that the positive emotional subscale subscale score of the employees in the service / clinic department was lower than TRSM was statistically significant (p = 0.001; p <0.01). The fact that the positive emotional subscale subscale score of the employees in the emergency polyclinic department was lower than those in the other department was statistically significant (p = 0.001; p <0.01). Tastefully working environment sub-dimension shows statistically significant difference according to its clinical status (p = 0.015; p <0.05). The fact that the management nurse's work environment sub-dimension score was higher than the service / clinical nurse was statistically significant (p = 0.001; p <0.01). <0.05) It was found statistically significant that service / clinical nurses' nurse satisfaction scale score was lower than responsible nurses and management nurses (p = 0.001; p <0.01). As a result, it turns out that there is a weak and negative relationship between job satisfaction and job stress, and there is a weak and positive relationship between communication skills and job satisfaction. Thus, as the communication skills of psychiatric nurses increase, job satisfaction increases. As job satisfaction increases, job stress decreases.
